Services
Our goal is to provide food, clothing, and financial assistance with utilities and transportation for medical services to those in need.
The demand for our services increases as our clients struggle to meet basic needs. Please consider giving a tax-deductible donation of any amount to assist your neighbors in need.
Service Policies
Food
Clients fill out an application for food assistance. If they qualify, they may come every 3 months for food items.
Clothing
Three outfits of clothing may be given to individuals, unless fire victims, then more is given. We have men's, women's, children's, and infant clothing.
Utilities
Power, natural gas, and water bill assistance is provided every 12 months for qualifying applicants. Utility bill must be paid down to $150 and be a resident of the City of Talladega to qualify. Referrals may be made to the Red Cross, Community Action, Human Resources, Salvation Army, and First Family Services.
Gasoline
The Samaritan House pays a maximum of $20 for gasoline at Allen Oil Texaco, on the corner of Battle Street and Johnson Avenue. A charge is sent to the station on stamped paper, designating the person and the amount of gasoline. Gasoline is given for trips to the doctor or for hospital visits out of town. A team will review how much gas is needed.
Tracts
Every applicant is offered lifestyle guidance literature and encouraged to go to a church of their choice. When the Samaritan House was organized, the President of the Ministerial Association made an urgent plea that we never let an applicant leave without “A Christian Witness.” Should counseling be necessary a minister is notified.
